COOLHUNT – Turning towers and a sky city.

There are already predictions that the world will be to crowded by 2050. In the VN prognosis they outlined three scenarios. In the worst-case scenario there will be 11.657.999 thousand people in the world in 2050. Right now there are already problems with housing. So we need some solutions to make sure that every human being can live on this planet normally.

WHAT? The first solution to this problem is a ‘Venus Blimp City’. (Picture 1) It’s a plan from NASA. They want to build an off world colony, a city floating above Venus. It’s a whole other way of housing people and they’re testing the viability right now.
The second solution is one closer to home. Designer Shin Kuo invented a rotating tower: ‘Turn to the future’. (Picture 2) All the apartments in the building will be connected to an internal motor, the apartments will move up and down like a corkscrew. So you can live from different angles everyday. It’s a concept that is based on needs that people want something different and not always the same.
Last but not least there are ideas for a plant-covered, car-free design for the megacity of the future. (Picture 3) The concept was made for the Shenzhen Bay ‘Super city’ competition. In this city they thought of interconnected skyscrapers and a network of public squares meant for pedestrians and cyclists. This is an amazing idea for the future to live sustainable and to house a lot of people.

WHY? I think that these ideas are already great solutions for the future. We need to use space more wisely. What’s happening now is that everything just gets crammed. A lot of the ideas are just concepts but I think they have a lot of future growth potential because we need this kind of solutions otherwise we don’t have much space to live on anymore. Because of the ageing and urbanization cities are getting packed. And with this kind of smart mobility solutions people can still live on this beautiful planet and maybe even without polluting it.
